Teatr Powszechny in Lodz is one of the few stages entirely dedicated to comedy plays. The history of the theater reaches back to 1945, which makes it one of the longest-operating theaters in the city. Among the city inhabitants, the theater is known for the organization of numerous events aimed at the popularization of theater art among the society, such as plays for the unemployed or the retired, as well as special meetings for children and youth. The institution has is the only in Poland Theater for the Blind and it regularly organizes the International Festival of Pleasant and Unpleasant Plays which attracts artists from all over the world.
