When founded in 1949, Teatr Nowy (“New Theatre”) – a dramatic theatre in Łódź, Poland – was supposed to be a "new" stage: thoroughly contemporary, socially and ethically engaged. This is how it has turned out: over the years, important plays with strong social, political and ethical overtones, resonating throughout the country, have been performed on its stage.
The same idea guides Teatr Nowy today – to keep exploring the possibilities of the medium for the audiences and artists; to look for new paths, new forms, new topics and new personalities both within regular artistic activities, as well as projects such as “Nowy i Młodzi” (“The New and the Youth”, addressed at young theatre artists: students and graduates, allowing them to improve and develop their directing and playwriting skills, and realize their own concepts.
