Nearly 1/3 of the area of Lodz is covered by green areas. They include over 40 city parks, including 11 historic parks under the care of the conservator, Botanical Garden, City ZOO, numerous squares, greenstones, newly-created pocket parks, as well as forests where Łagiewnicki Forest (1205 ha) holds a special place. It is one of the largest forest complex within the city limits in Europe!
Parks are places of relaxations and rest from the hustle and bustle of the big city, even though even here lots of things are going on. At the break of March and April you can visit park Klepacza (Klepacz's park) where small blue flowers (scilla) create the whole carpets among monumental oak trees. At the beginning of May, it’s a good idea to visit the Botanical Garden where nearly 70 thousand tulips are blooming. Saturday mornings during holidays, on the other hand, may be spent at the Breakfast Park in the oldest park of Lodz –Źródliska Park. Moreover, the parks of Lodz organize photowalks – free of charge photography workshops, as well as sports activities, such as Nordic walking and cross-country skiing.
