Walking along the Piotrkowska Promenade in Lodz, it is worth turning into Wieckowskiego Street, where above the gate at number 4 there is an inscription "NARODZINY DNIA" (meaning "BIRTH OF THE DAY"). Going inside, we will move into the fairy-tale world of fantasy.
Wojciech Siudmak is an artist belonging to the leading representatives of fantastic realism. He was born in 1942 in Wielun, Poland and has lived in France for over 50 years. It is the feuds of his two paintings "Birds in Paradise" and "Birth of the Day" that adorn the yard.
An innovative technique was used to transfer the works to the facades, which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The paintings were placed on 260 state-of-the-art porcelain tiles made to a special order by Ceramika Tubadzin (company from the Lodz Voivodeship). The largest of them measures 2 meters, and the smallest 25 centimeters. The installation occupies a total of 350 sq m. surface.
The revitalization of the tenement house and the creation of an artistic backyard were carried out as part of the "City of 100 tenement houses" project.
"I would like my paintings to make the residents of this tenement house aware that they can be rulers every new day, that they can experience it positively. I wanted my artistic story to give them a sense of happiness, to live with the inhabitants of the tenement house. I hope that they will be the most proud of the fact that they have such a decorated place of their residence" - this is how Wojciech Siudmak summed up the project.
The yard "Birth of the Day" is open daily from 6:00 to 22:00. The tour is free of charge.
