Places open during COVID-19 in Łódź [UPDATE: 2021-30-06]

Below You can find a list of places and institutions that are available for You during the pandemic. We try our best to keep it up-to-date as often as possible. In case of any errors please let us know: it[at]lodz.travel

Important updates:

  • ATTENTION: since 4th of May 2021, following the government instructions all cultural, gastronomical and entertainment facilities in Poland may be opened for public if particular institution's authorities decide to do so. Limits and restrictions may apply due to possibility (or non-possibility) of maintaining health safety on selected premises.
  • Restaurant and café gardens are available. Theatres and cinemas may sell up to 75% sitting places for their screenings and events.
  • We kindly remind You that most of the museums, even in non-pandemic period, are closed on Mondays, with exceptions of The Jewish Cemetery and Museum of Independence Traditions (all branches).

Available attractions:

  • The promenade of Piotrkowska Street: The Walk of Fame, The Tuwim's Bench, The Passage of Rose or The "Gutenberg" House (with metal dragons) are but few of all wonders of the longest shopping street in Europe.
  • Łódź Tourist Information: Mon-Fri 09:00-19:00 (9AM - 5 PM), Sat 10:00-18:00 (10AM - 6 PM), Sun 10:00-16:00 (10 AM - 4 PM).
  • Centre For Science And Technology EC1: the biggest facility dedicated to science and industrial history in Poland. Built on the premises of more than one-hundred years old power plant in Łódź is spreading the energy of knowledge around the world again! Opening hours: Tue-Fri 10:00-18:00 (10AM - 6 PM), Sat-Sun 11:00-19:00 (11AM - 7 PM).
  • Planetarium EC1: a spherical cinema on the inside of a huge dome guarantees the unforgettable cinematic experiences in 8K resolution. Screenings for kids and adults, lectures, meetings with experts and regular shows of the night sky maps. Opening hours: Tue-Wed 12:00-19:00 (12-7 PM), Thu-Fri 17:00-19:00 (5-7 PM), Sat-Sun 10:00-19:00 (10AM - 7 PM).
  • Museum of The City of Łódż: the city's history in a nutshell. All interiors of the Palace of Izrael Poznański are open for visitors, along with the palace garden. Recommended exhibition about the city (in both Polish and English) is called Łódź in Europe. Europe in Łódź and it is located in the palace underground. Opening hours: Tue-Thu 10:00 - 17:00 (10AM - 5 PM), Fri-Sun 11:00 - 19:00 (11AM - 7 PM).
  • Museum of Sport and Tourism: a small branch of the City Museum located in the Bay of Sport (Politechniki 10 Street). Opening hours: Wed-Thu 10:00 - 16:00 (10AM - 4 PM), Fri-Sun 12:00-18:00 (12-6 PM).
  • Central Museum of Textiles: the biggest museum in Europe dedicated to textiles and textile industry in all of its aspects is one of unique places in the world. Right now the most highlighted exhibition is called Łódzkie Mikrohistorie, ludzkie mikrohistorie (The Microhistories of Łódź. The People's Microhistories) and is located in the open-air City Culture Park on the back of the facility. Opening hours: Tue-Wed 12:00 - 17:00 (12-5 PM) , Thu-Sat 12:00 - 19:00 (12-7 PM), Sun 12:00 - 17:00 (12-5 PM).
  • Muzeum Kinematografii: after the major renovation works inside Karol Scheibler's palace the Museum welcomes You in their humble steps. The first part of Łódź filmowa (Łódź, The City of Film) exhibition is now open along with its iconic Kaiserpanorama from the early 20th century. The second part, depicting the history of polish cinema after 1945, is bound to be opened in autumn. Opening hours: Wed-Thu 9:00 - 16:00 (9AM - 4PM), Fri-Sun 11:00-18:00 (11AM - 6PM).
  • Museum of Art  ms1, ms2  and Herbst Palace Museum: While msand msconcentrate on modern and contemporary artworks (being part of the oldest institution dedicated solely to modern art in Europe since 1930s), The Herbst Palace demonstrates the interiors typical for the late 19th century lodzermensch taste. This is how the richest factory owners in Łódź used to live like. 
  • Musum of The Factory in Manufaktura: a place in which You can learn about the history of Izrael Poznański's textile factory and see the unique mechanical textile looms that are still operational. Opening hours: Tue-Sun 10:00 - 18:00 (10AM - 6PM).
  • The Jewish Cemetery: the largest Jewish necropolis in Europe judging by the number of preserved gravestones was created in late 19th century and was mostly spared from the destructions of war.  Opening hours: Sun-Thu 9:00 - 17:00 (9AM - 5PM), Fridays 9:00 - 15:00 (9AM - 3PM). 
  • Museum of Independence Traditions and its branches - Radegast Station and Radogoszcz Museum of Martyrology - can be visited for free. Be aware that all of the Museum's branches are closed on Fridays
  • Zoological Garden: The Zoo of Łódź is currently undergoing major works due to construction of the Oriental Park, but selected attractions are still open. You can purchase the tickets through an on-line platform or in the ticket booth. The entrance is now located on Krzemieniecka Street. Opening hours: 9:00 - 19:00 (9AM - 7PM).
  • Palm House in Źródliska I Park amazes with its diversity of plant species and the unique exhibition of cactuses and succulents. Opening hours: Thu-Fri 11:00 - 18:00 (11AM - 6PM), Sat-Sun 10:00 - 18:00 (10AM - 6PM). 
  • Botanical Garden: one of the largest and most beautiful botanical gardens in Poland acn suprise you wight he variety of plants presented on its flower-beds and in Alpinarium or Japanese Garden. The garden is open every day between 10:00 and 19:00 (10AM - 7PM).
  • Marek Edelman Dialogue Center: an institution dedicated to propagate knowledge about the multicultural heritage of Łódź, the ecumenical dialogue and debates on human and animal rights. The Centre focuses mainly on jewish history of Łódź. Small exhibitions about łódź jewish culture are placed on the corridors. Opening hours: Mon-Fri  9:00 - 17:00 (9AM - 5 PM), Sat-Sun 12:00 - 16:00 (12-4 PM).
  • Museum of Archeology and Etnography: The exhibitions of pre-history artifacts found in the region, including numismats, burial sites and items related to local folk culture. Opening hours: Tue-Sun 10:00 - 17:00 (10AM - 5PM).
  • Museum of Pharmacy: by preserving the possessions of foregone pharmacists the Museum tries to show a typical workshop from late 18th or early 19th century among the decorations preserved from the oldest pharmacy in Łódź. Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10:00 - 16:00 (10AM - 4PM). 
  • The City Art Gallery in Łódź: all the branches, including Galeria Bałucka, Galeria WillaGaleria Re:Medium and Art Propaganda are open. The exhibition program follows the particular institution's curatory schedule. 
  • The Łódź Street Art Trail: there are over 170 murals and other street art works in Łódź. You can dowload the map of them or obtain it in Łódź Tourist Information. More info and map.
  • Księży Młyn: a company town of Karol Scheibler, the richest factory owner in Łódź, hides many secrets. Being a complex factory-residential complex this whole area gives an impression of a city inside the city. More info.
  • Manufaktura: apart from the museums and restaurants there is much beauty in the buldings of former textile empire ot Izrael Poznański. More info.
  • Łagiewnicki Forest: one of the world's largest forest that remain in the borders of the city welcomes those who want to take a break from the city rush. More info.
  • The parks of Łódź: there are over 40 parks and other green areas in Łódź open all day, for the whole year. More info.
  • The Unicorn's Stable and the monument of Unicorn: the youngest monument in łódź is a humorous reference to the architecture of nearby tram station with colourful stained glass-like and art nouveau-like roof, which was referred to as the stable for unicorns.
  • Wojciech Siudmak's "Birth of The Day": Magical paintings of one of the most original artists, described as fantastic realism were brought to the inner courtyar walls of the house on Więckowskiego Street 4.
  • Joanna Rajkowska's "Rose's Passage": the inner courtyard of a house on Piotrkowska Street 3 is a unique mosaic of mirrors which referres to the illness of artist's daughter. More info.
  • Piotrkowska 217: restaurant hub with cyclical street food festivals and large courtyard. Nice vegan dishes and pizzas.  More info.
  • OFF Piotrkowska: gastronomical and cultural centre within the walls of former textile factory. Best ramen in town, local artists' showrooms and fancy gift shops. More info.
  • Aquapark FALA: one of the largest waterpark complexes has both covered and open-air pools, children zones, saunas, SPA, steam and finnish rooms and more. You can find the highest water slide in Poland here. it's name is Kamikaze. More info.

Closed facilities:

  • "Dętka" Museum of Sewer: due to COVID-19 outbreak the Museum of the City of Łódź has decided to close the underground exhibition until the pandemic danger passes. The small drainage canal cannot be fit to modern health and safety standards when it comes to prevention of virus disease spreading.
